United States: Miracle diabetic injection Ozempic has been lauded as a ‘paradigm shift’ in the battle against fatal cardiac failures.
The test has documented that those in a semaglutide group – an active ingredient in Ozempic – are half as likely to ward off severe symptoms of the disease, such as breathlessness and fatigue.
Heart failure is a chronic condition that causes a healthy heart to turn into a non-perfect pumping one, as Daily Mail reported.
It is estimated that at least one million Britons are affected and that it often leaves them bedridden and frequently requiring hospitalization. It is more than 20 percent of the patients who die from the disease within a year.
More about Semaglutide
Semaglutide was initially discovered as a treatment to cure diabetes, but lately, it is increasingly advised for dieting on a global scale after various studies confirmed that it would strongly diminish hunger.
Moreover, a diversity of well-known celebrities, including Elon Musk and Boris Johnson, who became open about their regime of the drug, confessions widely popularised by the media.
Drug’s usefulness in preventing heart failures
At the American College of Cardiology conference in Atlanta yesterday, attendees were informed of the research on its use as a treatment for heart failure.
The trial had diabetic participants, who were found to be four times more likely to develop heart failure.
But, experts envision that eventually, everyone with heart failure will benefit from taking it.
Dr Mikhail Kosiborod, a cardiologist based in Kansas City and the study’s author, said, “Heart failure leaves patients unable to do everyday activities, such as getting dressed and leaving the house, due to the debilitating symptoms,” as the Daily Mail reported.
Added further, “We have found that semaglutide is significantly more effective at combating these symptoms than any other treatment. This represents a paradigm shift for heart failure patients.”
About diabetes prevalence
However, statistics show that about 4.3 million Britons are living with diabetes, a condition that leads to an unusual spike in blood sugar. The majority of it has type 2 diabetes, which most likely is an effect of obesity.
Long-term, increasing high levels of blood sugar affects a whole lot of health problems such as blindness, kidney failure, etc. At the same time, about 20 percent of patients are also likely to develop heart failure.
